One of the primary goals of the SiskiyouHistory.org web site is to provide a way for individuals to submit, and therefore preserve, historical materials from personal and family collections.
We welcome the submission of any "primary source" materials from the Siskiyou County area. Primary sources are materials that have been saved from the past, and can include letters, diaries, manuscripts, legal and financial records, photographs and other pictorial items, maps, architectural and engineering records, artwork, scientific logbooks, and artifacts.
Photographs and other Images
If you have materials that originated in Siskiyou County and can scan them, we can accept your scans and information, and perhaps add them to these online archives. Items should be scanned at 72dpi with a mazimum width or length of 8 inches and emailed to us with your contact information (especially your email and address) and complete information about the material. Where did it come from? What is its date? Send as much information as possible please.
We regret that we do not have the funding to scan materials for you. We can only accept digital files.
Stories and Memoirs
Oral histories are also primary source materials. These are stories told by someone who was there...their memories and impressions. Most oral histories ar collected by a friend or family member taking the time to talk with an elder and record their words. Oral histories can also be written by the person who experienced them, such as an autobiography or memoir.
Tape recording is a common way to collect oral history. The tape is later transcribed...typed into written form. We are pleased to accept any first-person stories that can be emailed to email@example.com. Please include your contact information (especially your email and address) and complete information on the material. Where did it come from? What is its date? Send as much information as possible please.
We regret that we do not have the funding to transcribe tape recorded materials. We can only accept stories already typed and emailed to us.
Comments and Information
We welcome all comments. Please email us if you can add more information about any of our photos or images, suggest other links and useful historical sites, have any questions about materials on this site, or wish to offer feedback of any kind. We thank you for your interest and concern.
Submitted materials will be reviewed by county historians, and added to this web site whenever possible.
